My Dad is 78. He is a mild mannered fellow, capable of great feats.
Two weeks ago he skied the Birkebeiner cross-country ski race in Hayward, Wisconsin. He has skied the Kortelopet race the past few years. It’s a 23 kilometer race. But prior to a few years ago he skied the full 50 kilometer race several times.
He does some training on a daily basis to get ready. Some Nordic Track, and some skiing in the local parks.
But my point is that he doesn’t knock himself out with training, he’s just consistent. And when he’s not preparing for the Birke, he’s active hiking, chopping wood, or doing chores. I even got him to try knee boarding behind the fishing boat this past summer. He did it.
One of his favorite places is the Grand Canyon. I hiked it with him a few years ago; to the bottom and back in two days. We even took a couple of side trips, about three miles, on the way back. He’s now planning for a rim-to-rim hike when he turns 80. Fantastic.
Stay in shape and live an active life.
Your dad is a very inspirational man. He's living proof that you can be healthy, strong and fit at any age.
